The Road Maker artwork

This original charcoal of a Myanmar road worker shows the face of a woman who was part of a road-construction crew in the mountains of Chin State. Wearing her golden, hand-woven hat, her face lightly covered in thanaka and her neck shielded from the sun by her scarf, she well represents the incredibly hard-working people who are constantly building and rebuilding the roads damaged each rainy season. What they do is nothing short of a modern marvel, and the resilience of these workers is a wonder of this world.
